About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Nicole Hughes. I am originally from Waverly, NE where I grew up competing in 4-H and FFA and was very involved in high school/college/and amateur rodeos. I found my way out to western Nebraska through my capstone course from the University of NE in Lincoln, where I interned on a working ranch in Lisco, NE. I fell in love with the way of life out here and when the opportunity arose to come back for a Feedlot Management Internship program, I had to take it. I have spent the last 4 years working on a feedlot south of Broadwater and thought I was due for a change of pace, which is why I took the Agricultural Education position here at Leyton. I have been with my fiancé, Dawson, now for 3 years and we recently purchased a home together in Dalton and are looking forward to meeting everyone around the community.

Philosophy of Education

"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it." - Marian Wright Edelman Education plays a significant role in shaping successful adults. School is often where our young students start to develop their own personalities and skill sets while also improving their knowledge. A good education will also teach students critical thinking and how to analyze and look for the logic and reasoning behind all actions they may encounter. All of these aspects that I have stated above will help young adults have successful futures and learn to be leaders in our community.
